Hannah Sedgwick
Building Surveyor
I joined Malcolm Hollis in London as a graduate in May 2015, starting out in our Mayfair office before moving to our new City office at London Wall when it opened in July 2015.
As a graduate, I get the opportunity to work in all of the building surveying services that Malcolm Hollis offers. The company structure, my manager, APC supervisor and APC councillor are all geared towards helping me become a chartered surveyor. There are plenty of other graduates here at the same stage and we study together, which is really helpful, particularly in the final stages before assessment.
There is great variety at Malcolm Hollis with different types of work and kinds of buildings. I have had experience surveying luxurious historic hotels as well as semi-derelict warehouses; I never know what I might find on site!
The flat management system here is great for bouncing ideas and learning from colleagues and industry specialists. The atmosphere and culture is that of one big team. Regardless of experience and levels we all sit together in an open plan office; even the partners don’t have their own offices and everyone is willing to answer questions and help each other out.
We are very sociable. Our regular “SUPS” bar crawls are great and we take part in plenty of fun things like company-wide events twice a year and beers/wine in the office every payday. Wellbeing is important too and each office is supplied with fruit baskets and sporting activities to get involved with ranging from rather serious triathlons to dodgeball. There are also lots of chances to take up external networking opportunities with clients and professional bodies from the start of your career at Malcolm Hollis so from day one you are out meeting with clients and building relationships.
